everything you need to know about

Pinch Blocks

Pinch blocks train your ability to hold weight between your thumb and fingers. From narrow plate-style pinches to wide blocks and curved surfaces, changing the width and shape gives your hands a different challenge.

Our range includes one-handed and two-handed pinch tools, with options for building strength, practising competition lifts and finding your next stubborn personal best.

WHICH PINCH BLOCK SHOULD I CHOOSE?

If you’re buying your first pinch block, our recommendation is 60mm. It’s a versatile starting point for working on technique, heavy singles and timed holds.

Hand size affects how different widths feel, but it isn’t the whole story. Thumb position, finger placement and experience all matter. Narrow pinch is its own skill, while wider blocks challenge your grip in a more open position.

Choose the style you want to improve rather than assuming wider always means better.

OUR TOP PICKS

60mm & 80mm Pinch Blocks
Our classic flat-sided pinch blocks. Choose 60mm for an all-round starting point, or 80mm for a wider grip position. A straightforward way to train each hand individually and track your progress.

6mm Narrow Plate Pinch Block
Small width. Big challenge. This narrow steel plate rewards precise finger pressure, thumb placement and wrist control. A technical alternative to wider blocks—and one that still gives Tom plenty to complain about.

50mm Triple Barrel Pinch Block
A different feel from a flat block. Its curved barrel surfaces change how your fingers and thumb contact the tool, adding variety to your pinch training.

Beast Two-Handed Pinch Block
Built for lifting with both hands, with 60mm and 80mm options. Choose this if two-handed pinch is your focus. Our wider range also includes two-handed Narrow, Triple Barrel and Mammoth blocks.

LOOKING FOR A WIDER CHALLENGE?

The 100mm Mammoth takes you further into wide pinch training.

For something different again, the 120mm CUBE combines two flat and two curved gripping surfaces, giving you different contact positions in one tool.

MADE BY GRIP NERDS

Our GripLock™ pinch blocks are designed, tested and manufactured by us in the UK. Built from steel and finished in our signature textured coating, they’re made for regular training, chalk-covered hands and the pursuit of your next lift.

For our standard hanging pinch blocks, connect to a loading pin using a suitable carabiner. Add your plates, apply a light dusting of powdered chalk and get lifting.

PINCH FAQ

The most widely used competition width is 60mm; it’s the most hand friendly and the best all-rounder for general training. For wide pinch work, 80mm is a strong choice, especially if you have larger hands or you’re targeting blob lifts or thumb overload. Anything wider than this moves into true wide pinch territory, placing greater demand on the wrist and thumbs, which suits advanced lifters building specific strength.

Size at a glance

60mm — Most popular, versatile, great for PR singles, holds, and volume.

80mm — Wide pinch focus, ideal for blobs and thumb overload, suits larger hands.

Wider — Specialised wide pinch, heavier wrist/thumb strain, advanced progression.

GripLock™ Texture is a custom, ultra-grippy paint system designed for feel and durability. It holds chalk well and seasons over time to that perfect crust, helping to maximise performance.

We recommend using a light dusting of chalk on both your hands and grip tool, when used over time this will eventually develop the perfect seasoned feel and texture.

All equipment manufactured by Gods Of Grip is cleared for competition. You can view the complete list of competition lifts & rules here.

'Essential' equipment is not cleared for competition use.

We would usually recommend training pinch 1-2 times per week making sure to rotate between low / high rep sets and holds for time.

For more specific training tips & advice check out our Grip Academy.

Chalk - We strongly recommend not using liquid chalk with any of our grip tools, they are specifically desinged to be used with powdered chalk, liquid chalk will sit in GripLock™ texture and make the blocks feel worse.

Towelling - We do recommend brushing any excess chalk off with a towel frequently, this will allow for a consistent build up over time.

Brushing - You can brush the block to remove any excess or build up, this is not allowed mid competition (before or after is fine).

GripLock™ Texture - Our speciality paint is designed to season gradually over time through use, any paint chips are fine, these will just get filled with chalk / rust over time and provide you with an excellent textured feel.
