The Events

The day will consist of 5 Events covering all areas of Grip - Crush, Pinch and Support.

As this is our first event and we're aiming to keep it reasonably small, we will be just having Mens Open category and Womens Open category.

In the future there will be a chance for more categories if the interest in our championships continues to skyrocket.

If we manage to get enough numbers together for this event we will certainly look into splitting the categories.

Here is the lineup of events but firstly we would like to give a huge thank you to David Horne for allowing us to use one for his pieces of equipment.

Event 1 - Griptopz Half Penny

This event will take form as a 3 lift rising bar style. You have 3 attempts to acheive the highest weight possible.

Rules:
  • Only the penny is to be grasped with the thumb on one side, and only the Index finger flat against the penny, touching on the other side.
  • The spirit of the lift is to lift it in a ‘key style’, with the thumb on one side, and the index only on the other side, like if you held a key ready to open a door.
  • The apparatus is lifted until the marker jutting out at the bottom (at 3.5” from the floor) touches a horizontal bar placed at 16.5”, measured from the underside of the bar to the floor. This allows a 13” lift.
  • There is no referee’s signal. You do not have to be erect upon completion. You must lower the weight under control (hand grasping it all the way down). If the top accidentally touches the bar before the weight itself, referee’s discretion will be used to judge whether the correct height was attained.
  • You must not intentionally tilt the apparatus to gain leverage.

Event 2 - GOG Double Grenade Hold

A maximum hold for time, two grenades, one in each hand. Lifting style depends on your preference, we suggest adopting a style similar to that you would use to lift the Dinnie Stones.

The minimum time for a hold to count is 5 seconds. The highest weight / time wins. For example if you hold 25kg for 20 seconds but a competitor holds 30kg for 5 seconds, regardless of the time, the higher weight wins.

Rules
  • Each grenade must be grasped from the top, or top side. The fingers must not pass over halfway of the grenade, nor can any finger touch the lug.
  • Only the lifting hands can touch the equipment during the lift, the referee will look for any 'resting' and advise during the lift.
  • Due to the nature of this lift we expect the weights will be in contact with your legs at some points during the lift, this is acceptable, but will be at the referees discretion to advise during the lift.
  • Time will begin as the weight is lifted off the floor and the time will stop as the weight touches the floor again.
  • You do not have to lower the weight in a controlled manor.
  • You must not intentionally tilt the apparatus to gain leverage.

Event 3 - GOG Rolling Handle

This event will take form as a 3 lift rising bar style. You have 3 attempts to acheive the highest weight possible.

Rules
  • Only the handle is to be grasped by the lifter, aiming to hold the center of the handle.
  • Your hand can not touch any part of the frame during the lift nor can any part of the handle or frame touch your body. E.g Dragging the handle up the leg during the lift will call for a no lift.
  • The apparatus should be lifted 6".

Event 4 - GOG Pinch Block Hold

Using the Gods Of Grip 60mm Pinch Block we will test the pinch strength of our athletes. Who can hold this the longest?

  • Men - 10kg, 15kg, 20kg, 25kg, 30kg, 35kg
  • Women - 10kg, 15kg, 20kg, 25kg, 30kg, 35kg

The minimum time for a hold to count is 5 seconds. The highest weight / time wins. For example if you hold 25kg for 20 seconds but a competitor holds 30kg for 5 seconds, regardless of the time, the higher weight wins.

Rules
  • Only the pinch block is to be grasped during the lift.
  • Only the lifting hand can touch the equipment during the lift, the referee will look for any 'resting' and advise during the lift.
  • Time will begin as the weight is lifted off the floor and the time will stop as the weight touches the floor again.
  • You do not have to lower the weight in a controlled manor.
  • You must not intentionally tilt the apparatus to gain leverage.

Event 5 - The Mystery Event

Everyone loves a mystery event so it will stay this way until the day.

The only hints I will give are: Crush, Pinch & Support..

Hope this keeps your brain ticking over.

Summary

This is a very exciting prospect for us and it will be great to be able to hold a grip competition in an area we love so much.

Once the events are over we will have a BBQ using high quality meat from a local butchers in the village.

We will have a couple of sponsors there on the day too so it will be amazing for everyone to get to know each other who all have the same interests at heart.

Prizes

For the top 3 in each category we will be doing medals and then the winner will also receive a grip goody prize and a prize from one of our sponsors.

We will also have products on sale too which will be slightly cheaper than the website and will also save you on the shipping costs too.

If you are interested in purchasing anything on the day, please let us know so we can make sure we have what people want.
