Key Pinch Grip Tools

Key pinch grip is an essential part of grip strength, testing how well you can hold and control objects between your thumb and index finger. Whether you're gripping plates, lifting odd objects, or just looking to strengthen your hands, training your key pinch is a must.

OUR TOP PICKS

Choosing which key pinch grip tool to go for can be difficult, especially if you're still pretty new to grip. We've shined the spotlight on a few of our favourites below.

Inch Pinch - The Inch Pinch may be small, but it delivers a serious challenge for building key pinch strength. Designed to test your thumb and finger grip, this compact tool pushes your limits with every lift, it’s a fun yet deceptively tough way to improve key pinch.

The Inch Pinch is a must-have for anyone looking to strengthen their thumb and finger power.

The Ridge - A Gods Of Grip original and one of our most popular small pinch grip tools. Laura came up with the idea for this product in 2020 after becoming pretty much obsessed with all things key pinch.

The Ridge allows for a hybrid style of key pinch lifting allowing for flat thumb and multiple finger pressure. It's a great vareity of a key pinch style lift and one we often throw in competition let the smaller guys show off their finger strength.

PINCH FAQ

The most widely used competition width is 60mm; it’s the most hand friendly and the best all-rounder for general training. For wide pinch work, 80mm is a strong choice, especially if you have larger hands or you’re targeting blob lifts or thumb overload. Anything wider than this moves into true wide pinch territory, placing greater demand on the wrist and thumbs, which suits advanced lifters building specific strength.

Size at a glance

60mm — Most popular, versatile, great for PR singles, holds, and volume.

80mm — Wide pinch focus, ideal for blobs and thumb overload, suits larger hands.

Wider — Specialised wide pinch, heavier wrist/thumb strain, advanced progression.

GripLock™ Texture is a custom, ultra-grippy paint system designed for feel and durability. It holds chalk well and seasons over time to that perfect crust, helping to maximise performance.

We recommend using a light dusting of chalk on both your hands and grip tool, when used over time this will eventually develop the perfect seasoned feel and texture.

All equipment manufactured by Gods Of Grip is cleared for competition. You can view the complete list of competition lifts & rules here.

'Essential' equipment is not cleared for competition use.

We would usually recommend training pinch 1-2 times per week making sure to rotate between low / high rep sets and holds for time.

For more specific training tips & advice check out our Grip Academy.

Chalk - We strongly recommend not using liquid chalk with any of our grip tools, they are specifically desinged to be used with powdered chalk, liquid chalk will sit in GripLock™ texture and make the blocks feel worse.

Towelling - We do recommend brushing any excess chalk off with a towel frequently, this will allow for a consistent build up over time.

Brushing - You can brush the block to remove any excess or build up, this is not allowed mid competition (before or after is fine).

GripLock™ Texture - Our speciality paint is designed to season gradually over time through use, any paint chips are fine, these will just get filled with chalk / rust over time and provide you with an excellent textured feel.
