Event Format

The first three events will be run as a rolling block. Once an athlete is out of Event 1, they will move on to Event 2, then Event 3.

After lunch, the remaining events will continue, with athletes moving through the final stations as efficiently as possible.

Scoring System

The competition will be scored across six events, with each event worth a maximum of 1000 points. This means the maximum possible total score for the competition is 6000 points.

Maximum Lift Events

For maximum lift events, points are calculated using the athlete’s lift compared against the best lift in their scoring category:

Athlete lift ÷ category best lift × 1000

For example, if the best lift in a category is 100kg and an athlete lifts 90kg, they would score 900 points for that event.

Timed Hold Events

Timed hold events will use a formula that rewards both the weight selected and the time held, then scales the result against the best score in the category to give a maximum of 1000 points.

For the V-Bar Dinnie Style Hold, the scoring formula is:

Total Weight + (Time × 0.30)

This means the total weight selected is the main scoring factor, while hold time is used to separate athletes within each weight selection.

The maximum scoring time for the V-Bar Dinnie Style Hold is 60 seconds. Any hold beyond 60 seconds will be recorded as 60 seconds for scoring purposes.

The V-Bar Dinnie Style Hold uses fixed weight jumps of 20kg total weight between each setup. Because the maximum possible time bonus is 18 points, a lighter weight selection cannot beat a heavier weight selection, provided the heavier weight is held for the minimum valid time.

Example:

  • 80kg / 60kg for 5 seconds = 140 + (5 × 0.30) = 141.5 raw score
  • 70kg / 50kg for 60 seconds = 120 + (60 × 0.30) = 138 raw score

If the 80kg / 60kg hold is the best score in the category, it receives the full 1000 points.

  • 80kg / 60kg for 5 seconds = 1000 points
  • 70kg / 50kg for 60 seconds = 138 ÷ 141.5 × 1000 = 975.27 points

In this example, the heavier 80kg / 60kg hold still scores higher, even though the 70kg / 50kg hold was held for the maximum scoring time.

Medley Events

Medley events will be scored primarily by the number of implements successfully completed.

If a medley contains 20 implements, each implement will be worth 50 points.

The scoring calculation will be:

Items Completed ÷ Total Items × 1000

Example:

  • 20 out of 20 implements completed = 1000 points
  • 18 out of 20 implements completed = 18 ÷ 20 × 1000 = 900 points
  • 16 out of 20 implements completed = 16 ÷ 20 × 1000 = 800 points
  • 10 out of 20 implements completed = 10 ÷ 20 × 1000 = 500 points

Completion time will be used to separate athletes who complete the same number of implements. For example, if two athletes both complete 18 implements, the athlete who completed their 18th implement faster will rank higher.

This means completing more implements will always score higher than completing fewer implements, regardless of time.

Final Total

Scores from all six events will be added together to produce the athlete’s final total.

General Rules

All athletes must attend the athlete briefing before competing. Event rules, safety standards, judging calls, and any final clarifications will be covered during the briefing.

Chalk & Grip Aids
  • Only powdered magnesium carbonate is allowed.
  • Liquid chalk, tacky, spray tack, grip-enhancing substances, or any similar products are not allowed.
  • Athletes may bring their own powder chalk or block chalk.
  • Wrist wraps, finger tape, finger bandages, or any similar support are not allowed unless approved by the event organiser for a specific medical reason before the event begins.
Weigh-In & Category Rules
  • Athletes must weigh in before competing.
  • If an athlete weighs over their entered category limit, they will be moved into the next available weight category where possible.
  • If moving category is not possible, or if the organiser decides the athlete must remain in their entered category for scoring purposes, a points deduction will be applied.
  • The deduction will be 250 points per started 0.5kg over the category limit.
  • For example, an athlete who is 0.3kg over their category limit will receive a 250-point deduction. An athlete who is 0.8kg over will receive a 500-point deduction.
  • Any points deduction will be taken from the athlete’s final total score.
Clothing & Equipment
  • Athletes should wear suitable clothing and footwear for lifting.
  • Any personal equipment must comply with the event rules and may be checked by the event team if required.
Judging & Attempts
  • The judge’s decision is final.
  • Any lift, hold, or medley attempt must meet the stated event standard to be counted.
  • Failed attempts, missed lifts, or attempts that do not meet the required standard will not score for that attempt.
  • Unsportsmanlike behaviour, arguing with judges, or repeated failure to follow instructions may result in removal from the event.
Safety
  • Athletes are responsible for lifting within their own ability.
  • Any athlete may be stopped from continuing an event if the organiser or judge believes it is unsafe for them to proceed.
  • All equipment must be treated with respect and used only as directed by the event team.

Events

Event 1 - Two-Handed Triple Barrel Lift to 6”
  • A rising bar maximum lift event. Athletes will attempt progressively heavier weights, lifting the implement to the required 6” height.
  • Each athlete will have a maximum of 10 platform attempts. There will be a warm-up area next to the lifting platform.
  • Once an athlete steps onto the lifting platform, they will have 60 seconds to complete their attempt.
  • The 60-second timer is intended to keep the platform moving and should be used for the lift itself. Athletes should adjust belts, apply chalk, use smelling salts, and complete any other preparation before stepping onto the platform.
  • This event will be scored as a maximum lift event: Athlete lift ÷ category best lift × 1000.
Event 2 - Mystery Event
  • The mystery event will be confirmed on the day.
  • Hint: It will require your hands to lift.
  • The scoring system for this event will be confirmed during the athlete briefing once the event has been revealed.
  • This event will be worth a maximum of 1000 points.
Event 3 - Hand Gripper Timed Hold
  • Athletes will perform a timed hold using their selected gripper.
  • Elite 1–8 grippers will be available. RGC ratings can be viewed here.
  • The hold block used for this hold is 15mm wide, which is standard for all of our timed holds.
  • The weight added to the hold block will be 1.25kg.
  • You will have a maximum of 3 attempts. One attempt is counted as soon as you have the block and gripper set in one hand.
  • The minimum time required for a valid hold is 5 seconds.
  • Your hand must remain straight during the hold. Turning the hand sideways, forwards, or backwards may result in a warning from the referee.
  • If a second warning is required during the same attempt, the timer will be stopped and the time at that point will be recorded.
  • This event will be scored using the selected gripper level and hold time, then scaled to a maximum of 1000 points.

Event 4 - V-Bar Dinnie Style Hold
  • A timed hold event using the V-Bar Dinnie style setup.
  • 50mm and 76mm V-Bars will be used for this hold. You are free to pick either size up with either hand.
  • You will have a maximum of 3 attempts. One attempt is counted as soon as you attempt to pick the weight up, whether it leaves the floor or not.
  • The minimum time required for a valid hold is 5 seconds.
  • The maximum scoring time is 60 seconds. Any hold beyond 60 seconds will be recorded as 60 seconds for scoring purposes.
  • Available weights for this event are 80kg / 60kg, 70kg / 50kg, 60kg / 40kg, 50kg / 30kg, and 40kg / 20kg.
  • This event uses a tiered timed hold scoring formula: Total Weight + (Time × 0.30), then scaled to a maximum of 1000 points.
  • Heavier weight selections will always rank above lighter weight selections, provided the minimum valid hold time is achieved.
Event 5 - Legacy & Fatman Blob Medley
  • A loaded-to-height blob medley with a 90-second time limit.
  • The loaded height is roughly 60cm, depending on the final design.
  • Blobs must be lifted overhand style with minimal scoop.
  • This event will be scored by number of blobs completed.
  • If the medley contains 20 blobs, each blob will be worth 50 points.
  • The scoring calculation will be: Blobs Completed ÷ Total Blobs × 1000.
  • Completion time will be used to separate athletes who complete the same number of blobs.
  • Completing more blobs will always score higher than completing fewer blobs, regardless of time.
Event 6 - Thomas Inch Dumbbell Medley
  • A loaded-to-height Thomas Inch medley with a 90-second time limit.
  • The loaded height is roughly 60cm, depending on the final design.
  • Dumbbells must be lifted in one motion with minimal tilt.
  • This event will be scored by number of dumbbells completed.
  • If the medley contains 20 dumbbells, each dumbbell will be worth 50 points.
  • The scoring calculation will be: Dumbbells Completed ÷ Total Dumbbells × 1000.
  • Completion time will be used to separate athletes who complete the same number of dumbbells.
  • Completing more dumbbells will always score higher than completing fewer dumbbells, regardless of time.

Notes for Athletes

Please arrive in good time so that check-in and briefing can be completed before the first event starts.

Awards will be presented after the final event once scores have been checked and confirmed.

The event is expected to finish at around 6:30pm, but this is an estimate and may vary slightly depending on the pace of the day.
