This is a complete collection of all Grip Tool Lifting Rules. All grip tools have a certain collection of rules and some tools have specific rules. Please see below:
General Lifting Rules
- Only powdered magnesium carbonate is allowed. The use of liquid chalk or any form of tacky is specifically disallowed.
- Wrist wraps / finger bandage / tape are not allowed.
Weight Categories
- Mens - 120kg+, 120kg, 105kg, 93kg, 83kg, 74kg, 66kg, 59kg.
- Womens - 84kg+, 84kg, 72kg, 63kg, 57kg, 52kg, 47kg.
Competition Scoring
Each event will have the same scoring system. If 20 athletes compete, 1st place will receive 20 points and 10th place will receive 10 points. If you fail to make a valid lift during your attempts you will receive 0 points.
During the event of a tie we will proceed to a tie breaker event chosen by the referee on the day.
Verified Gym Lifts
Granting you the ability to get yourself on the leaderboards outside of competition. To submit your lift you must abide by the following guidelines as well as general lifting rules and event specific rules.
- Digital scales must be used to show the weight of the lift after completion.
- This applies to all lifts bar Saxon Barbell.
- The Implement and weight must be visible at all times during the lift and whilst weighing.
- If a crossbar is used, the height must be shown before / after completing the lift.
- For lifts requiring a referees down signal there must be a clear lockout with short hold at the top before lowering the weight
- If no crossbar is present a clear and full lockout is required.
- The video must be sent to us via info@godsofgrip or @godsofgrip.
Crush Events
Rolling Handle
1 Handed Lift
These rules apply to 50mm(2"), 64mm(2.5") and 76mm(3") Rolling Handles.
- Only the rotating bar of the handle can be grasped / touched during the lift.
- No part of the frame can be touched during the lift.
- Any part of the lifting apparatus can not touch the legs or any other body parts during the lift.
- You must not intentionally try to tilt the handle.
- You can not rest your lifting hand or forearm on your legs during the lift.
- The lift must be completed to a minimum of 6".
- There is no referee's down signal.
- After the marker touches the 6" height, the weight must be lowered in a controlled manor with the lifting hand in full contact.
Rolling Handle
1 Handed Hold
These rules apply to 50mm(2"), 64mm(2.5") and 76mm(3") Rolling Handles.
- All previous rules apply except you do not need to lift the weight to a certain height.
- The time begins as soon as the weight lifts off the floor and stops as soon as the weight touches the floor again.
- You do not have to lower the weight in a controlled manor.
- The hold must be completed for a minimum of 5 seconds to be valid. Times will be rounded to the nearest 0.1 ie 12.23s seconds becomes 12.2s.
Weights to be used for holds are:
- 50mm - 80kg, 70kg, 60kg, 50kg, 40kg, 30kg, 20kg.
- 64mm - 70kg, 60kg, 50kg, 40kg, 30kg, 20kg, 10kg.
- 76mm - 60kg, 50kg, 40kg, 30kg, 20kg, 10kg, 5kg.
Pinch Events
Pinch Block
1 Handed Lift
These rules apply to 6mm(0.25"), 60mm(2.4") and 80mm(3.1") Pinch Blocks.
- The Pinch Block must be grasped overhand. Fingers front and thumb rear.
- No part of the underside or inside of the block can be touched during the lift.
- Any part of the lifting apparatus can not touch the legs or any other body parts during the lift.
- You must not intentionally try to tilt the block.
- You can not rest your lifting hand or forearm on your legs during the lift.
- The lift must be completed to a minimum of 6".
- There is no referee's down signal.
- After the marker touches the 6" height, the weight must be lowered in a controlled manor with the lifting hand in full contact.
Pinch Block
1 Handed Hold
These rules apply to 6mm(0.25"), 60mm(2.4") and 80mm(3.1") Pinch Blocks.
- All previous rules apply except you do not need to lift the weight to a certain height.
- The time begins as soon as the weight lifts off the floor and stops as soon as the weight touches the floor again.
- You do not have to lower the weight in a controlled manor.
- The hold must be completed for a minimum of 5 seconds to be valid. Times will be rounded to the nearest 0.1 ie 12.23s seconds becomes 12.2s.
- The referees will specifically be looking for any tilting of the block, this is not allowed.

- 80mm - 35kg, 30kg, 25kg, 20kg, 15kg, 10kg, 5kg.
Pinch Block
2 Handed Lift
These rules apply to 6mm, 60mm and 80mm Pinch Blocks.

- You do not have to lower the weight in a controlled manor.
- The hold must be completed for a minimum of 5 seconds to be valid. Times will be rounded to the nearest 0.1 ie 12.23s seconds becomes 12.2s.

- 6mm - 60kg, 52.5kg, 45kg, 37.5kg, 30kg, 22.5kg, 15kg.
- 60mm - 100kg, 85kg, 70kg, 55kg, 40kg, 25kg, 10kg.
- 80mm - 100kg, 85kg, 70kg, 55kg, 40kg, 25kg, 10kg.
Saxon Bar
2 Handed Lift
These rules apply to (2.5"), (3") Saxon Bars.
- The Saxon must be grasped overhand. Fingers front and thumb rear.
- No part of the underside or outside (sleeve) can be touched during the lift.
- You must not intentionally try to tilt the bar.
- The lift must be completed to lockout with a referees down signal.
- The weight must be lowered in a controlled manor with the lifting hands in full contact.
Saxon Bar
2 Handed Hold
These rules apply to (2.5"), (3") Saxon Bars.
- All previous rules apply as well as the following.
- The time begins as soon as the weight lifts off the floor and stops as soon as the weight touches the floor again.
- You do not have to lower the weight in a controlled manor.
- The apparatus is not allowed to rest on your legs or any other body part during the hold.
- The best way to avoid disqualification is by ensuring a gap between the lifting hand and your thighs.
Weights to be used for holds are:
- 2.5" - 100kg, 85kg, 70kg, 55kg, 40kg, 25kg, 10kg.
- 3" - 100kg, 85kg, 70kg, 55kg, 40kg, 25kg, 10kg.
Ridge
1 Handed Lift
These rules apply to 6mm, 10mm, 14mm Ridges.
- The Ridge must be grasped from the top, specifically with the finger(s) and thumb.
- No part of the edge / underside can be touched during the lift.
- Any part of the lifting apparatus can not touch the legs or any other body parts during the lift.
- You can not rest your lifting hand or forearm on your legs during the lift.
- The lift must be completed to a minimum of 12".
- There is no referee's down signal.
- After the marker touches the 12" height, the weight must be lowered in a controlled manor with the lifting hand in full contact.
Ridge
1 Handed Hold
These rules apply to 6mm, 10mm, 14mm Ridges.
- All previous rules apply except you do not need to lift the weight to a certain height.
- The time begins as soon as the weight lifts off the floor and stops as soon as the weight touches the floor again.
- You do not have to lower the weight in a controlled manor.
- The hold must be completed for a minimum of 5 seconds to be valid. Times will be rounded to the nearest 0.1 ie 12.23s seconds becomes 12.2s.
Weights to be used for holds are:
- 6mm - 7.5kg, 5kg, 2.5kg.
- 10mm - 10kg, 7.5kg, 5kg, 2.5kg.
- 14mm - 12.5kg, 10kg, 7.5kg, 5kg, 2.5kg.
Ridge
1 Handed Lift
These rules apply to 6mm, 10mm, 14mm Ridges.
- The Ridge must be grasped from the top, specifically with the finger(s) and thumb.
- No part of the edge / underside can be touched during the lift.
- Any part of the lifting apparatus can not touch the legs or any other body parts during the lift.
- You can not rest your lifting hand or forearm on your legs during the lift.
- The lift must be completed to a minimum of 12".
- There is no referee's down signal.
- After the marker touches the 12" height, the weight must be lowered in a controlled manor with the lifting hand in full contact.
Hub
1 Handed Lift
These rules apply to Low, Mid and High Hubs.
- All fingers must be in contact with the hub when starting the lift. They are not required to be touching the base plate, but must be touching the ring.
- You cannot touch any part of the underside of the plate, or inside of the hub with your lifting hand.
- Any part of the lifting apparatus can not touch the legs or any other body parts during the lift.
- You must not intentionally try to tilt the the hub.
- You can not rest your lifting hand or forearm on your legs during the lift.
- The lift must be completed to a minimum of 6".
- There is no referee's down signal.
- After the marker touches the 6" height, the weight must be lowered in a controlled manor with the lifting hand in full contact.
ImpossiNipple
1 Handed Lift
The rules, for those lucky enough to own the limited edition ImpossiNipple
- The Nipple must be grasped from the top, specifically with the finger(s) and thumb.
- No part of the edge / underside can be touched during the lift.
- Any part of the lifting apparatus can not touch the legs or any other body parts during the lift.
- You can not rest your lifting hand or forearm on your legs during the lift.
- The lift must be completed to a minimum of 12".
- There is no referee's down signal.
- After the marker touches the 12" height, the weight must be lowered in a controlled manor with the lifting hand in full contact.
Triple Barrel Pinch Block
1 Handed Lift
- The Pinch Block must be grasped overhand. Fingers front and thumb rear.
- The thumb can be straight or curved between tubes. Both grips are allowed
- No part of the underside or inside of the block can be touched during the lift.
- Any part of the lifting apparatus can not touch the legs or any other body parts during the lift.
- You must not intentionally try to tilt the block.
- You can not rest your lifting hand or forearm on your legs during the lift.
- The lift must be completed to a minimum of 6".
- There is no referee's down signal.
- After the marker touches the 6" height, the weight must be lowered in a controlled manor with the lifting hand in full contact.
Vertical Events
Vertical Bars
1 Handed Lift
These rules apply to both Square & Dynamite Vertical Bars
- The Vertical Bar must be grasped from the side with the bar facing upwards.
- No part of the underside of the bar can be touched during the lift, you may touch the top of the bar.
- You are free to grip at the top / middle / bottom of the bar.
- Any part of the lifting apparatus can not touch the legs or any other body parts during the lift.
- You must not intentionally try to tilt the the bar or gain wrist leverage.
- You can not rest your lifting hand or forearm on your legs during the lift.
- The lift must be completed to a minimum of 6".
- There is no referee's down signal.
- After the marker touches the 6" height, the weight must be lowered in a controlled manor with the lifting hand in full contact.
